Representatives of leading restaurant concepts from around the world will gather at the Restaurant Franchising and Innovation Summit in Atlanta March 16-18 to gain insight and inspiration to help them be more progressive in every facet of their business.

At this year’s event, Partners + Napier will host a breakout panel discussion entitled “Connect, Diversify, Differentiate: What Restaurants Can Learn From Retail.” As oversaturation and the onslaught of e-commerce transformed the retail industry, restaurants now face a similar challenge: too many options and not enough customers to go around. Panel attendees will walk away with actionable insights and ideas on how best to position their restaurants for growth in an age of industry disruption.

Partners + Napier Chair & Founder Sharon Napier will moderate the panel, featuring these seasoned voices from across the fast casual industry: Scott Davis of CoreLife Eatery, Paul Damico of Naf Naf Middle Eastern Grill, and James Walker of Nathan’s Famous.

Scott Davis joined the CoreLife Eatery team in September 2016 to head up menu development and guide strategic brand growth. Paul Damico is Chief Executive Officer of Chicago-based Naf Naf Middle Eastern Grill. Prior to joining Naf Naf, Paul served as President of Focus Brands based in Atlanta, GA, where he oversaw six brands comprising over 5,000 locations for Moe’s Southwest Grill, McAlister’s Deli, Schlotzsky’s Deli, Cinnabon, Carvel, and Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. Prior to this role he was President of Moe’s Southwest Grill. Paul also previously served as Chief Operating Officer for SSP America, a leading airport concessions company based in VA. Prior to SSP, he co-founded FoodBrand, LLC, a company that specialized in the development of restaurants in malls and airports.

James Walker, CFE, is a top restaurant industry expert with a specialty in rebranding and repositioning iconic American comfort food brands. James is an industry-leading authority in restaurant technology and delivery channels, and he specializes in mergers & acquisitions, domestic and international development, operations, franchising, and new product development. With more than 30 years of broad-based, senior-level management experience in the hospitality and retail industries, James has served as President, Chief Development Officer, as well as in Senior Operations and New Product Development positions for brands such as Baja Fresh, Cinnabon, Johnny Rockets and Subway.

Delta Vacations Tells Travelers Not to Plan a Vacation

Partners + Napier, a leading integrated creative and media company, has released its newest research report, “Hidden in Plain Sight: Have We Ditched Day Parts?” which sheds light on the 32 million Americans who report eating outside traditional mealtimes, calling them “Mealtime Outsiders.” The report explores why Mealtime Outsiders eat at off hours, what motivates their food choices throughout the day, their attitudes about dining and cooking, as well as emerging opportunities for marketers to meet their needs. This is the second installment in the Hidden in Plain Sight series, where the Partners + Napier strategy and media teams combine forces to uncover new, high-value audiences across categories.

“The pandemic created major and lasting disruptions to the traditional dining routine — millions of Americans retired early and those who didn’t are working longer hours and facing increased demands. Those who retired are no longer bound to a set schedule, whereas many workers are unable to eat how and when they want to because of their working conditions, “ said Janine Perry, Director of Brand Strategy at Partners + Napier. “Uncertainty with the economy is also playing a role, with many people looking for restaurant meals or takeout options that provide the best value and can stretch into leftovers.”

Mealtime Outsiders cite their most common eating windows as 10 am -11 am, 2 pm - 5 pm, and 8 pm - 7 am. Overall, they are eating later, and letting their needs dictate their dining decisions rather than trying to stick to a schedule. With all of the stress they face in their daily lives — whether it’s work, family, or being constantly bombarded with stressful events in the news — Mealtime Outsiders report that eating on a schedule is more pressure than it’s worth. Food and restaurant brands that then portray mealtimes as fitting neatly into traditional day parts are creating a narrative that’s out of step with consumers’ reality.

While their needs and desires throughout the day play a significant role in their eating decisions, Mealtime Outsiders are also looking at ways to prioritize their food budgets. In times of recession or when finances are tight, 60% of Mealtime Outsiders cite delivery as the first thing they cut, followed by eating out (53%) and ordering takeout (52%). Finding ways to indulge continues to be a priority, with only 22% of this audience saying they would cut back on treats or snacks.

The Strong National Museum of Play, one of the nation’s leading museums for families and home to the National Toy Hall of Fame, is partnering with creative and media AOR Partners + Napier to delight travelers on the road from Toronto and across the Northeast with a billboard campaign that leads to the ultimate play destination.

The “Path to Play” campaign supports The Strong’s recently completed expansion project, which includes 90,000 square feet of immersive exhibit spaces for all ages, featuring the world’s largest playable Donkey Kong arcade game, electronic gaming areas where guests can create personalized avatars and embark on puzzle-solving quests, a larger-than-life Hasbro Game Park, and much more. The project also includes a whimsical parking garage designed to support the nearly 1 million annual visitors anticipated by 2026, up from a previous high of 600,000 pre-pandemic visitors.

The Strong National Museum of Play Creates Path to Play for Northeast Travelers

Partners + Napier, a leading full-service creative and media agency, won silver in the Product/Service Category at the 4A’s 2023 Jay Chiat Awards. The agency was honored for its work with Canadian cannabis brand Ace Valley, which launched new THC-infused sex gummies by creating a safe, empowering space for intimacy in the heavily regulated cannabis market.

The Ace Valley “Lust and Thrust” launch was the brand’s first foray into sexual wellness, and while customers were already using their products for anxiety relief, pain management, and improving sleep — the challenge was getting people to understand how cannabis enhances intimacy and overcoming barriers in a heavily regulated category where distribution is limited to dispensaries.

Consumer research confirmed “budtenders” to be the gatekeepers of the dispensary world, with their individual recommendations being the leading source of purchase decisions in Canadian dispensaries. The strategy focused on influencing the budtenders — arming them with “The Canna Sutra” manual, which features illustrated positions inspired by cannabis, and hosting a launch event where renowned sexperts facilitated open conversations, emphasizing the importance of pleasure in a safe and enjoyable environment. Following the launch, budtenders recommended Ace Valley Lust and Thrust gummies as a playful add-on at purchase, selling out at key retailers across Canada, driving 50% more sales than projected and over 235 million impressions within the first month.
